1931 CHINA US NAVY LOVE STORY

This has all the history you can ask for, it seems that Chief Machinist Mate August John Schmidt of the USS-38 being stationed in China married a White Russian Women from the community of Russians that fled the revolution. In 1931 Mrs. Schmidt (Anastasia Beliavina) applied for a temporary permit (Declaration of Nonimmigrant Alien) to travel to the Philippine Islands with her husband from Tsingtao, The application notes that she will return to China when my husbands ship returns to Chinese Waters in the spring of 1932. The application was approved by the Vice Consul on Sept 18, 1931. It appears that there were two tax stamps one of $1.00 and the second for $9.00. Along with the application there is a letter from a Priest named Beliavina listing his knowledge of the family from 1916 in Krasnoiarsk, Siberia stating that Anastasia married Chief P Officer Schmidt in 1931. This letter verifies my thoughts of the family fleeing the revolution to China as so many did. Some how Mrs. Schmidt made it to the USA and in July of 1941 became a citizen of the United States. I have no further records of the couple but I do have some information on his brother John A Schmidt. John was a Corporal in the 5th Marines 51st Co. 2nd Division and was killed in action. John is mentioned in the daily reports as being a message runner and preformed hazardous duty. I have what looks like a Red Cross booklet with his name and unit along with a listing of the Cemetery he was buried in along with a photo of the grave. All this besides the good conduct medal and the Bullion navy ratings what a neat story. Condition very good ++
