M34 SS DAGGER x BERTRAM REINH x SERIAL NUMBERED

This M34 Dagger’s original owner was Georg Balmberger, Rank SS-Unterscharfuhrer with SS membership number 67 684. His NSDAP membership number is 1 868 422. This Dagger has been researched by Ross Kelbaugh and all the material is included with the Dagger. His personal file includes the typical information up to 1938, along with a photograph of himself. He was awarded a Bronze SA sports badge and a class III driving permit. Also included in the files are copies of his Race and Settlement paper work. This has not been transposed to English so I really do not know what his family history is. I have tried to do some research on the internet but as he was a low rank NCO I have not found any information regarding his service. This M34 SS Dagger was made by the highly desirable Bertram Reinh. Sohn Firm. As usual I will start my description with the Grip and Fittings. The nickel-silver finish matches on all knife and scabbard fittings. The Pommel Nut does not show that it has never been removed. The top cross guard has a blemish to the obverse. The lower cross guard has the district 1 stamped into the reverse face. The bottom of the cross guard facing the logo has the numbers 67 684 stamped into it. Now the best part is that the wood grip fits perfectly in the cross guards, no gaps and no shrinkage to the wood at all. This being an early dagger the grip is the thinner style body with the sharp edges, just the way I like them. The eagle and roundel are a perfect fit with no wear on either the eagle or the enamel SS. The blade, the etched Motto is perfect with the nice gray lettering. The reverse side of the blade had the highly collectable factory Bertram Reinh logo of the Rooster and Hen was expertly etched just as the SS motto on the obverse. The blade itself is the full length with no nicks and only one small spot near the lower cross guard. The scabbard is anodized as it should be and comes with a vertical hanger. The body has scratches to the finish with some light rust in that area. The ball is not damaged, it just shows normal wear. The leather hanger is in very good condition with just the loss of the black finish around the top snap catch. This dagger was sold in 2011 for $5,000.00 by a well know dealer that listed the dagger as near Mint. That is his description not mine. The original sales receipt is included. Condition Very Good +++ NOTE I still haven’t learned how to take good photos of the bright blades, so please know the blade is much better than what you are seeing. Jim
