WWI NEW YORK STATE KIA DOCUMENT

This group consists of a N.Y. State KIA document for Lt. John D. Arnett, the shipping envelope addressed to his wife, a War Dept card with the document. These items have been in my personal collection for over 40 years. For some reason I thought today would be a good time to see what I could find about this Soldier. Once on the internet I found more that I had thought would be available. This N.Y. State Document list the name John D.Arnett First Lt., Medical Corps. date of death April 16th 1918. What I found on the internet is the following Lt. Arnett was born in June 2nd. 1888 and lived in Medina NY. He was a trained Doctor of Medicine and had a practice in Pavilon NY. In January 7th 1917 he married Miss. Florence Sayers. In the same period he volunteered for the Army Medical Reserve Corps in response to a national wartime call for physicians. He was called to active service August 2nd 1917 and sailed for overseas duty. Dr. Arnett was attached to the British Royal Army Medical Corps in hospitals in Portsmouth treating wounded soldiers. In January of 1918 he was assigned to the 99th Field Ambulance and sent to the front lines. He was assigned to the British 33rd Division. During the battle of Lys Dr. Anett was killed by a German Artillery Bombardment. His position for treating wounded soldiers was directly behind the front lines. What I found was that there are piles of information on Dr. Arnett including hometown news paper articles, State records, 99th Division, cemetery reports, Disinterment and reburial records, quartermaster reports, Graves Registration service, War Dept, and his wife's letters. In 1930 the War Dept notified Mrs. Virginia Arnett his mother that as a God Star mother she could make a Pilgrimage to the grave site at the governments expense. All of this information fits my expression that the knowledge brings this state KIA document to life, its not just a piece of printed paper any longer.
