M40 HELMET WITH EXCEPTIONALLY HEAVY CAMOUFLAGE
This helmet is one of the last helmets out of my personal collection that I would never sell. It’s M40 no decal helmet with the heaviest, roughest camouflage covering I have ever seen. I really have no idea what was mixed with the paint to come the lumps along the skirt. The entire helmet is covered with a very rough material that ran down the side and caused the lumps in the paint as shown. The helmet is a EF64 batch no. 49?4 complete with a full leather liner and draw string. The leather is stiff but complete. The chin strap is also complete but stiff with age, and maker stamped.
I did not buy this directly from a veteran but at a house auction in September 27, 1998 and have this auction add from the newspaper listing a Nazi helmet. With the helmet came a wooden box that it was sent home in along with a pair of gators and a canteen. The box did not have the cover so the box went years ago as did the gators and canteen. Also included is the certificate to Paul Zellers allowing the items to be sent home. A great helmet and the backup material for the helmet. I know that I took photos of the helmet and box but most likely I will never find it among the thousands of photos of items I purchased over the years.
