EARLY MASSIVE DRESS BAYONET
This massive Dress Bayonet is a first for me I have never seen one before. The overall shape and construction is what the later dress bayonets have followed except for the overall size os all the parts. This bayonet not only larger in all aspect it’s two or the-red times heavier. As always I will start with the handle/grip portion. The Bird head pommel is of course larger and the beak is much more pronounced, sharper beak. The pommel is slotted for mounting on a rifle but the button is not attached to anything with no possibility of mounting it. The grips are what we see on all later dress bayonets except held on with a much smaller size steel river. This Cross Guard is again typical of what we see but much heavier in construction. The blade also appears thicker with a center blood grove. There are no maker marks on the blade. The chrome playing has lost its brightness both on y=the knif and scabbard. The scabbard fittings appear to be plain polished steel with the leather held on with staples. The reverse OG the top fitting has the following stamped into it 91.FC.(?) 11. 108 not sure of the lettering as there is rust on that space that will have to be removed to properly read it. An unusual bayonet and I would not want to wear it all day.
