SEAMAN’S CERTIFICATE OF SERVICE

This is something different for me as I have never had this or even seen this Identification and certificate of service documents before. This leather holder with the chain for a button hole was purchased in a gold and antique shop today by me. I will describe what is in this offering the leather wallet style case is marked U.S. Dept. of Commerce Washington DC and as noted there is a chain attached to it. The size is 4.5” wide by 5.75 high with leather tough with a snap on it to keep the wallet closed. When it is opened there is a U.S. Dept of Commerce Certificate Of Service named to Stanislavsky Walter Grohowski that certifies him as taking an Oath required by law and qualifies him to serve aboard American Vessels of 100 Tons gross and upward in the Engine Department as a Wiper. This section folds down and there is a U.S. Dept. of Commerce certificate of Identification dated 1938 for him. Both documents are with his photograph and official embossed seals stamped on them. Both documents are in clear plastic sections of the wallet for protection. There is also a very nice Sterling U S Merchant Marine Pin with a banner on the bottom saying We Keep Em Sailing. Condition Good ++
