AMERICAN MOUNTED ARTILLERY OFFICERS EAGLE HEAD SWORD
This early Mounted Artillery Officers Sword from around 1815 till 1840 period is my favorite period of collecting American Swords. I believe that this sword is English made for the american market for the following reasons. It matches up exactly with sword 41b from the Philip Medicus collection with the curved blade length of 31” the fuller is 21 1/2” there are no maker marks and the blade is plain. The guard is plain brass that was most likely gilded at one time. The grip is made from a bone with vertical fluted lines with one narrow space to one wider space devising the fluted finish, there is one short crack and with the leather washer missing between the sword and guard somewhat lose. The blade has dark rust spots but has not been played with as there are no nicks in the blade edge, and it is still sharp.
Condition for a sword of this age very good
