PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION 1899 IDENTIFIED MEDAL
This Philippine Insurrection medal is numbered M. No.4212 and comes with a ID tag listing Co. K 28th Regt. Edw. M. Davis along with the original numbered cardboard case. I purchased this medal some time ago because I thought that I could trace the owner thru the tag and confirm that he served in the P.I. To earn this medal.
The 28th regiment was formed in July of 1899 at Camp Meade, PA. And saw extensive action in the war. Now seemed like a good time to start my investigation as there is not much going on. I spent several hours on line reviewing everything I could find on the 28th. Reg. and finally found a copy of the book “28th regt. Infantry U.S. Volunteers Organization to Date of Muster Out”. Once I found the book listing all members of the 28th it was my mistake in looking at the ID Tag and not realizing that the Co. then an initial that was particularly drilled out was the letter K. This would have saved me a lot of time as I had to go through all the different regiments until I came to K regiment. Davis was a Corporal in the K reg. And as stated the book isn’t many engagements that K Co. was in.
The medal is with the original Issue box, original ribbon “starting to show its age” on a full wrap broach, the planchet is is crisp and needs a cleaning something I do not do.
Condition very good ++
