WW2 US ARMY AIR FORCE PACIFIC KIA PURPLE HEART DOCUMENT

This PH document and presidential accolade to Corporal Charles L. Coury Army Service Number 16044289 was killed July 11th 1943 at Guadalcanal. His grave marker list that he was with a troop carrier Squadron in the 5th Air Force from Detroit Michigan. I have searched the missing air crew reports and can not find him. Finally found the information on him and his plane. Unit USAAF 5th AF, 374th TCG 22nd TCS Plane C-47-DL Slytrain Serial no. unknown Named Junior July 11th took off from Port Moresby transporting cargo bound for Dobodura Piloted by 2nd Lt Harry D. Digman Co-pilot 2nd Lt James L Forster Cpl. Charles L. Coury was the Radio operator The plane was on the third trip of the day from Wards Strip to Dobodura through the Kokoda Pass. The plane had an engine problem at the top of the pass. Normal procedure was to shut down the engine and feather the prop. The plane lost altitude so fast that the pilot elected to land at the nearest strip at Popondetts. On the final approach a wing tip struck a tree spinning the plane into the ground short of the runway. All the crew were killed. The information came from radio and visual contact. Condition good ++
