406 INF. REG. CASUALTY REPORT
Some place some where I wound up with this after action casualty report for private Walter Traudt from the 406th Inf Regt. 102nd Division .
It has to be a end copy of several typed at one time so I never paid much attention to it till the other day. The copy is hard to read and describes a November 25-27 1944 action listing that he was wounded and left behind when two companies of SS troops counter attacked and drove them back. I can not make out the location of the action and in checking the 102nd site it's not listed.
What is interesting is they reported that Traudt was seriously wounded in both arms and had a mangled hand and was last observed speaking to the SS soilders. I thought that they must have been conversing in English but in my research I found that Traudt was born Danzig, Germany and not a US citizen. He was reported missing in action and one has to wonder if he died from his wounds or at the hands of his fellow Germans?
One never knows what you will find with a little time spent researching an item.
