WWI 78th DIVISION NAMED & LISTING BATTLES
First off this M1917 helmet is complete with the full liner and chin strap. The 78th Division patch is painted on the owners left side and would rate 90%+. The front of the helmet has the following scraped out of the textured paint and painted black 17-1918-19. The right side of the helmet has scratched out of the paint and Chateau-Therry and that is painted black. Under that is St. Mihiel. Under that is Meuse- Argonne There is other writing that I can not make out. This work was done by a regular soldier not an artist. The top of the helmet has four big dents most likely from flying objects from a near artillery hit, just what they were intended to do.
The entire underside skirt has been repainted in a heavy paint. On the left side of the underside skirt has the following painted on it 1st Bn. Pvt. Harry _ Hubbard No, 1763_ _6
The helmet shell is stamped with 74 and there could be a couple more numbers or letters before it, but unreadable from the heavy paint.
The chin strap and the full liner are present with just the white tag under the rivet missing.
There is other scratched in letters and I can not read them so this will give you something to do in your spare time.
Condition used and banged up but a great identified US Helmet
