WWII MEDICS PHOTO ALBUM 79TH DIVISION
I was contacted by a friend that a family was selling their house and the grandfather was a WW2 vet and that there were some military items there. I went to meet the family and the husbands father was a medic in the 312th Field Artillery in the 79th Infantry Division. Before I found out he was a medic in the artillery I was hopping for a combat medic as I have collected uniforms and groups from C.M.'s.
They were having the house put up in an auction and all the contents were to be sold at that time. I was informed that nothing was for sale that it all would be in the auction. There really wasn't much there for me so I went to the auction the following Saturday. I purchased a copy of Mien Kampf,a cigarette album, a photo book of the war with France, etc. and this photo album.
The first page has his T-corporal stripe, ruptured duck and a couple patches. Laying on the front page was a tourist brochure for Bastogne pre the battle of the bulge and a tourist booklet for Switzerland. The first 7 page sides have around 60+ photo copies of what the GI's could buy after the war. The next 5 page sides has 15 unit photos, along with a personal photo of Bob Hope could not miss the nose. There are two different golf score cards one from Czechoslovakia and the other from either Germany or Switzerland. Then there 3 page sides of 21 captured German Photos. The next page has a large tourist booklet for Berchtesgaden. the next page has another smaller pamphlet for B.G. and the next page a map of the B.G. District along with a B.G. post card denoting where he stayed. The next page has 5 photos one being a post card he wrote on for B.G.area.
After going thru the album how did a lowly corporal get around like he did. I know the 79th wound up in Czechoslovakia at the end of the war, but he must have been just one of those guys that took the opportunity to do what he wanted.
