USS YOSEMITE AD19 DESTROYER TENDER ASH TRAY
I picked this WWII US Navy Ash tray from a vets family. As this ship was a floating repair shop making items like this was an easy task. I have seen many different items made by their machine ships. The size is ash tray is 4.75"wide by 1.25" high and is made from heavy Bronze, its not going to slide off a table in high seas.
The USS Yosemite was a Dixie-Class Destroyer Tender Built for WW2. It was 530foot long 73 feet at the Beam speed 19.6 knots. Once in the Pacific The ship company made repairs on over 200 ships. She made he way to the Eniwetok and then on to Uliti Atoll and again began repairing ships. From there she went to Leyte Gulf and supported the fleet on its march toward Japan. The Yosemite remained in Sasebo Japan and attended to the ships assigned to the occupation of Japan. The assignment lasted until March 1946. She arrived in NY on April 22.
Postwar service after back state sides she became the flagship for the commander, Destroyers, Atlantic Fleet.Over the remaining years she participated in the Cuban Blockade and was in general use between US and Europe. She was decommissioned on January 27, 1994. In November 18, 2003 she was used as a target and sunk a poor end for a 50 year old ship. This is a heavy bronze piece typical of ship-born made. Condition very good +++
