This unusual sword came out of an old time collection and is the first iron hilt and scabbard I have owned. The sword is double maker marked with the full E&F Horster Solingen name and the Horster sword trade mark. The guard and backstrap are cast iron with a nice Bronze/aged steel look. There seems to be little casting loss and with the cream white handle looks really great. The scabbard is all steel that is engraved to look like the standard leather and brass unit. At some point the scabbard has been repainted in the black finish. The blade is a typical WWI period blade with a few minor rust spots. The guard still has the folding tab on the reverse with a working spring to ensure the sword does not slide out. Just a great and fairly rare WWI navy sword. Condition very good.
