SCHLAGETER COMMERATIVE BADGE

This Schlageter Memorial Badge is one of the nicer looking badges from the 3rd Reich in my opinion maybe because it lacks a swaz. This badge has the Rhein/Ruhr & 1923/24 bar attached to the Badge. Condition very good +++ History- Albert Leo Schlageter, a decorated First World War veteran, joined the Nazi party in 1922, following the French occupation of the Ruhr. While engaged in sabotage against them, he was apprehended by the French in March of 1923, and was tried and executed a month later. He immediately became a martyr to the Nazis, and a potent propaganda tool. A monument was created, and a medal was struck in his honor, ten years later, as an award to Freikorps members for honorable service. After 1935, its wear was no longer permitted.
